1. The Zoning Committee has developed an outline for new zoning districts, a schedule of permitted and special uses, and is now working on minimal lot sizes for the new districts. The Committee has released one document for review by the Plannng Board and the public, their proposed revision of the purpose statement and an outline of proposed districts. To speed up the process, the Committee now meets every two weeks. The next schedule meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7:00. The public is welcome to attend. Check the Town website or call theTown Clerk for meeting schedules.

There is debate within the Zoning Committee as to what zoning restrictions the town may place on properties and buildings within the official Ad District. As this debate clarifies, we will try to keep you posted.  For some clarification on this matter you may review "Local Laws and Ag Districts, How Do they Relate", and our recently uploaded brochure explaining the Ag Districts.

2. The Planning Board is working on both a Steep Slopes and a Subdivision Law.   Recently the Board held a preliminary meeting on Subdivision Law with representative property owners in the town. The meting was well attended and included several representatives from our Mennonite agricultural community. Several in attendance volunteered to participate in the development of the law. The invitation sent out prior to this meeting explained what a subdivision law is and is not, and explained why one is needed in our town, as recommended by the Comprehensive Plan. The invitation can be viewed here.

3. The Planning Board has a new Chairperson, Sue Lange,. The previous chairman, David Allardice, found it necessary to resign because of his travel schedule.

4. Our neighboring township to the south, the Town of Wayne, is updating their Comprehensive Plan. They are proposing a very innovative approah to land use districts for the preservation of farmland and vineyards.Click here to see the draft of their Comp Plan.

5. The Barrington History Group of the Dundee Historical Society meets once each month to discuss its various projects. If you would like to attend please contact us and we will let you know the meeting schedule. The History Group is eager for anyone to join the group that has a special interest in Barrington History, whether or not they are current residents of the town.

6. One of the history groujp's project is a photo inventory of town properties, being conducted by Sid Mann and Steve Knapp. A slide show of properties, arranged by road, is being developed and a map showing the location of all residences on a parcel map will be updated, following the example of the 1876 Historical Atlas of Yates County. The project will integrate "then and now" historical photos based on the prints of the 1876 Atlas, as well as aerial and vista view photography.

7. The Van Gordon Road Cemetery restoration project is dormant over the winter and will begin again in the Spring. A lot of progress was made in the fall, with many new stones discovered as the cemetery was cleared of brush.

Several from the town of Barrington. includng Tara Farnan, Code Enforcement Officer Gary Boardman, Steve Knapp, JohnMcGregor, Vince D'Ingiani, Tom Murrin, Sue Lang, Sid Mann and Bob Flickinger attended the training and participated in the development of this guide. The training was conducted by staff from the Pace University Law Center, was co- sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the Keuka Lake Association, and  was coordinated by the Genesee- Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council.

Some time in the next month or so, a presentation on the "Guide" will be made at the Barrington Town Hall. When we learn of the schedule, we will post it. All are encourged to attend this meeting and to look over the "Guide" at the GFLRPC website.
